1971
Our Founding

Founded in 1971 in Bellwood, IL as a stainless steel service center, Combined Metals has grown over the past fifty years into the largest independent processor and distributor of specialty strip and wire in North America.

1983
Michigan Expansion

In 1983 we expanded to our MI service center.

1989
Specialty Metals Alloy Offerings Expand

In 1989 Elgiloy Specialty Metals expanded our venture into cobalt, nickel, and other high-performance alloys, such as our signature cobalt alloy, Elgiloy, which debuted in 1947.

1998
Hampshire Rolling Mill Begins Operations

Our 25-acre, Hampshire, IL state of the art strip conversion mill began rolling operations in 1998. This mill allows us to roll light gauge strip up to a meter wide.​

2003
Specialty Metals Wire Expansion

In 2003, we added our first specialty metals wire drawing facility in Sycamore, IL.​

2019
Gibbs Wire & Steel Acquisition

In 2019, Combined Metals acquired a North American distributor of spring wire and tempered strip products: Gibbs Wire & Steel.​

2021
Gibbs Interwire Formed

Most recently, in 2021, we acquired the assets of a precision strip conversion mill in Bristol, CT. Also in 2021, Combined Metals through Gibbs Wire & Steel Company LLC purchased Interwire, the leading distributor of spring wire in North America, merging the assets to create the newly formed Gibbs Interwire.

2023
Combined Metals Company & Our Brands

In 2023, Combined Metals Company, LLC goes to market as three primary brands: Combined Service Centers, Elgiloy Specialty Metals,​ and Gibbs Interwire
